The Hits Keep Comin’

Follow-up from Saturday's Work Party:

The mystery of the missing 6 cubic feet of mulch has been solved! The SDOT truck was unable to back into the streetend because the northern homeowners' intrusive fence blocked their way. So they left without dropping the mulch for our 13 volunteers to distribute onsite.

The rockery we worked to uncover and clean has been a lovely seating area for generations. Unbeknownst to us, it is apparently included in the south homeowners’ permitted encroachment. I have sent a letter to SDOT that we protest and contest this decision. There was no public comment period (as required). It’s hard to imagine why a public agency would turn over public land to a private individual intent on harassing the community for using public land. Deep breaths … phew.

Rescheduled Work Party on Earth Day, April 22, Saturday  9 - 12  (Take Two on spreading chips). We’d love to see even more people on April 22 (we had a blast this past Saturday)—the missing wood chips will be delivered one way or another. Our trees and shrubs will really appreciate a nice thick layer of protection.

P.S. It may be time for another gathering (it’s hard to call it a “protest” when a bunch of community members swim, drink coffee, laugh and hang out together on public property). Here’s FOHB member Bob Henry earlier this year …

Join us at the April 22 work party and bring that Eye Of The Tiger spirit!
