October Update
Dear FOHB,
It is time to give you an update on where we are regarding all things Hidden Beach.
First, the permit for the northern homeowners’ Very Annoying Fencing on the street-end was renewed until early February. It was gratifying to have 156 of your names on our petition to SDOT* asking that it not be renewed, regardless of the outcome. Thanks to all of you who took time to sign it. We continue to document the use of the area (or not) for construction.
Second, we will be requesting that SDOT to instruct the southern property owner that he is obligated to complete cutting back his intrusive laurel hedge to allow pedestrian and other passage on the sidewalk.
Third, we applied to SDCI* early in the summer for a Shoreline Exemption/Street Improvement Exception permit. Because we are in a shoreline environment this is a necessary step before our application to SDOT for our primary plan can move forward. Our project is larger than SDCI had realized, and we have been told we now must apply for a different permit, a Shoreline Substantial Development Permit.
From this new permit application:
Working with SDOT (permit number SUSIP0000667) our proposed plan removes impermeable surface within a beloved shoreline street end, replacing it with native plantings, improved site access and increased pedestrian safety. We have previously submitted our drawings to SDCI under permit numbers 002659-23PA and 6974898-EX, but after a site visit and drawing review with Ben Perkowski it was deemed that our project requires a Shoreline Substantial Development Permit (SSDP) application and review.
We hope to hear something in a few weeks. Many kudos and thanks to Emily Van Geldern who submitted an updated, beautiful and comprehensive application on behalf of FOHB.
Last, thanks for coming out to dine at Tutta Bella. We put a little cash in the coffers and very much appreciate the community spirit behind their offer of support.
Libby
