“Inherited A Driveway”

An excerpt from an attorney letter for the southern homeowners, uploaded on 3/18 to SDCI:

Our firm represents … the owners and residents of the property abutting the south side of the East Harrison Shoreline Street End. They have owned the property for 11 years and inherited a driveway entrance within the Street End in place for at least 60 years as well as mature trees, laurels and hedges on the entrance to the street end.

The City allows paid encroachments on public land—it’s a privilege, not an “inherited” or historical right. Additionally, the wall of cedar hedges and irrigation that line the northern curve of the driveway were installed when the driveway was initially poured without a permit (it has since been permitted).
