Wetland Assertions
The opposition is trying to classify Hidden Beach as a wetland — it’s a main theme of their comments.

However, this comment from a neighbor in favor of the proposal stands out:

By way of introduction, I am a biologist and conservationist, and founder and chair of Conservation International. I studied ecology and forestry as both an undergraduate and at the Yale School of Environmental Science. I am also a distinguished professor of Conservation Practice at Arizona State University. I share these credentials simply to add weight to my personal observation that Hidden Beach is a beautiful city park with a nice beach that is perfect for families, dogs, swimmers, picnicking and children. It is NOT a wetland. There is not a stream or marsh plants. It is not a marsh. It is filled with common native and introduced species of plants. It needs a bit of attention in picking up what visitors occasionally leave behind but it is well respected and thoroughly enjoyed by all of us. In the 30 years that we have Iived nearby, I know of one time when it was actually crowded and that was a few years ago on a blazingly hot July day. I took the picture that has been circulated to show the relief and joy that Hidden Beach brings to so many. It is a perfect place for the people of seattle who do not have direct access to Lake Washington.

The new design was beautifully thought through with great improvements and would be a continued gift to all of us.
